Qualifying Criteria

To start your exciting journey, you will need to meet the following criteria.

Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
Registered nurse with current nursing licence in your home country.
Have a minimum of 6 month’s work experience.
An English language proficiency of a minimum of 6 (IELTS) or C (OET). Our English teachers and resources will help you achieve the level you need, if required.

Process to living & working in the UK

Please see the full process outlined below to achieve your dream of becoming a registered nurse and all of the fantastic benefits that come with working in the NHS. medic-plus are here to support you every step of the way.

1. Demonstrate English Language Proficiency

You need to pass an Occupational English Test (OET) with minimum grade B in speaking, listening and reading and C+ in writing, or IELTS with minimum score of 7 in speaking, listening and reading and 6.5 in writing – medic-plus will help you achieve this level if required.

2. Nursing and Midwifery (NMC) eligibility & qualification application

This is to demonstrate you meet the registration requirements to work in the UK. This stage simply involves providing identity and qualification evidence – medic-plus will support with this stage.

3. Pass the Computer Based Test (CBT)

The CBT is split into two parts: Part A covers numeracy and Part B covers clinical questions for nursing and midwifery. This test is taken on a computer before coming to the UK – medic-plus will help you book and prepare for the test.

4. Attend an interview (can be online) and secure a job offer

An interview arranged by medic-plus and our partners, hopefully leading to a job offer – medic-plus will help you with interview preparation.

5. Secure Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from Employer

You will need the sponsorship reference number on the CoS for your Tier 2 visa application.

6. Submit Tier 2 Health & Care Worker Visa Application

This visa allows medical professionals to come and stay in the UK do an eligible job with the NHS – medic-plus will help you complete your visa application.

7. Travel to the UK

Travel to the UK on a flight arranged by medic-plus or one of our partners. Collect your Biometric Resident Permit (BRP), confirming your right to work in the UK. Medic-plus and our partners will organise flights, airport transfers and temporary accommodation.

8. Achieve the Objective Structured Clinical Exam (OSCE)

Practical exam to test your clinical and communication skills. You will have your results within 5 days.

9. Complete NMC registration

Complete the NMC registration you started in step 2 of the process, by providing health, character and language evidence.

10. Work as a registered nurse in the UK

Congratulations, you can now enjoy all of the benefits of working as an NHS Nurse in the UK.
